I grabbed the branch above my head and pulled my self up. Below me I could hear the dogs searching for me.
I cursed under my breath as I scraped my hand on the rough tree bark. Luckily the cut wasn't deep. That was good.
“Find the girl and bring her back alive! Those are your orders! Do not fail!” I looked down and saw Makis, a man with eyes as black as night. He was attractive in a way, but dangerous. Oh, so dangerous. He is strong enough to kill some one with a single blow. Any were. He has short, thick, black hair, a lot like mine.
Makis and I, we're from the same strand of DNA. We, along with the dogs, are G.E.L.O.s (pronounced Jello. Funny right?) G.E.L.O. stands for Genetically Engineered Living Organisms. A mix of human DNA with the DNA of animals some times giving us tails or some thing. But always giving us some thing, always. I was lucky, I got the mind of a super computer, the strength of a bull, and the speed of a cheetah.
So, any way, I'm in a tree, hiding from Makis, and telling my self that my situation is hopeless. And for once, my mind is telling my self that I'm right. That's never a good sign, ever. I shifted my weight on the branch I was sitting on. I cried out as the branch snapped under my weight. I fell to the ground, right in front of Makis.
“So, May, you thought you could get away. I guess you cant always be correct.” Makis grabbed the back of my shirt and pulled me to my feet.
“Yea, computers don't know every thing. Do they, Boss?” One of the dogs walked out from behind a tree and walked up to Makis. It had a brown pelt with white spots. Its eyes were pure blue.
“I'm not some stupid computer.” I mumbled.
“Well your not human.” The dog sniffed my cut hand and licked it.
I pulled my hand away from the dog. (I never really liked dogs. I'm more of a cat person.) “Leave me alone.”
“Silence, Raven. Gather your pack and bring them here.” Makis pushed Raven away from my hand and pointed to the woods.
“Yes Sir, Boss.” Raven ran into the forest yelling and barking orders to any dog that might be able to hear her.
“Who calls a dog that isn't even black Raven?” I asked looking at Makis.
“You ask as if you think that I'm the one who named her, May.” Makis pined my arms behind my back and cuffed my hands. He pushed me away from the forest (we weren't far in). “Now, can you stop trying to run away? Please?”
“What? You getting tired?” I looked at him and smiled. “You, the great Makis! Getting tired from chasing a little girl!” I laughed.
Makis tightened his grip on my arm, but kept walking, not talking.

We soon made it to the Camp. (At least that's what it's called. It's more like a lab.) The Camp is divided into sections that are labeled by color. All the G.E.L.O.s are divided into the sections by their eye color. Everyone's eyes are one solid color, no pupil, iris, or white , just one color. I live in the Black Section.
“Home sweet home.” Makis grinned, he loved Camp.
“Prison sweet prison.” I mumbled. Sure we got to live in tents and have camp fires when we wanted to, but it still felt like a prison. I mean, what camp hunts you down when you leave? And how many camps have genetically altered people walking around in them?
“Hey! May's back!” Winter, my best friend, ran up. “How far did you get?”
I smiled, “Farther than last time!”
“That's great!!!!” She coughed, hard. (Winter's mixed with fish DNA. It makes her a great swimmer, but it also made it hard for her to breath.)
“You OK?” I asked, patting her back.
“As OK as a girl with gills can be. Come on, everyone in my tent is waiting!” Winter lead me to the Blue Section of camp, and then to her tent. I was greeted with about ten sets of blue eyes (one belonging to a black dog with white paws).
“Hi everyone!” I said, trying to sound cheery, instantly everyone started talking at once.
“How far did you get?”
“Were you scared?”
“Did you get past the forest?”
“Were you scared?”
“Slow down everyone! One at a time!” Winter yelled over the noise. Everyone grew quiet.
“Thanks, Winter.” I sat on the ground just out side the tent flap, inviting them outside. They followed me out and sat in front of me. I answered their questions and told them all about my escape attempt.
“I wonder why it didn't work.” The dog piped up after I had told the story.
“Yea, me too.” Winter looked thoughtful.
“Everyone, back to your tents!” Raven barked, coming up behind me. “Alexander, you too.”
Alexander's tail wagged as he ran up to his mentor. I sighed as I got up and went back my tent in the Black Section of camp.
“May! Get up!” I opened on eye to see Gold, our resident black-eyed yellow dog, trying to pull the zipper on my sleeping bag.

“Gold, stop.” I tried to go back to sleep.
“Oh, no you don't!!” Gold nipped my hand.
“Ow! Gold, that hurt!” I sat up and glared at her.
“It's your own fault!” Gold barked.
I got dressed and left the tent. I jogged to the mess hall. Winter caught up after a while.
“Slow down.” She wheezed.
“Sorry.” I slowed down to a walk. I sometimes forget that I have a cheetah’s speed.
“It's OK.” I watched her gills flap up and down on her neck.
We got to the mess hall and found a seat at one of the tables. Luke sat down next to me. He was in the Green Section of camp and was mixed with a chameleon and a viper.
“What's up, guys? Hey, May, I heard that you tried to escape yesterday. How far did you get?” His face turned blue.
“I got a bit further than last time. And your face is blue.” I laughed as he changed his face color to purple, then orange, then tan.
“I'm still not good at it.” He confessed after I had stopped laughing.
“You think?” Winter coughed a couple of times.
“You OK, Winter?” Eva asked walking up. Eva is a brown dog with dark brown spots, her eyes were orange.
“Yea, I'm fine. Thanks, Eva” Winter coughed harder.
“Here.” Luke threw some water on her gills.
“Thanks, Luke.” Winter breathed in the water through her gills.
“No prob.” He shrugged.
Eva walked over to the seat next to Winter and got up on it, she licked Winter's face. “You sure your OK now?”
“Yea.” Winter sighed.
We ate the rest of our meal quietly and left the mess hall.
“Were to first?” Luke asked.
“I'm going to take a swim in the lake.” Winter pointed in the direction of the lake.
“Works for me.” Luke said, following the path.
“May, you in?” Winter knew how bad of a swimmer I was.
“Yea. I'll just dip my feet in.” It was hot out, and I didn't want to ruin anyone's mood. I jogged down to the dock and sat on the edge, the water went up to my ankles.
“Hey, look! It's the escape artist her self!” A laugh followed the comment. I turned around and saw Vanessa and her gaggle of friends walking up. Behind them was a white dog with a black saddle spot on it's back and pink eyes, Angel. They were all mixed with goose and swan DNA, thus the gaggle comment.
“What do you want, Vanessa?” Winter demanded, her head above the water.
“I wasn't talking to you, Fish-freak.” Vanessa's gaggle laughed.
“Yo, Vanessa, learn some manners!” Luke called, walking out of the lake.
“Luke, why do you hang out with these losers? Why don't you join my flock?” Vanessa fluttered her eye lashes at him.
“I don't think I meet the standards. Sorry.” Luke shrugged.
“Standards?” Angel yipped.
“Yea, I'm not a complete air head.” Luke shrugged again.
“Do you really think that, Luke?” Vanessa pouted. “Or did May and Winter make you think that?”
“Nope, I figured that out my self.” Luke turned around and jumped into the lake, splashing Vanessa and her gaggle.
“Oh! My dress is soaked! Don't look at me!” Her gaggle, who had been starring at her, looked away. “This is your fault, May!”
“Why are you blaming me?! I didn't do anything!” I yelled at her.
“Exactly! You didn't stop Luke from splashing me! Now my dress is ruined! And it's all your fault!” Vanessa stormed over to me and pushed me, I lost my balance and fell into the lake. Vanessa's gaggle started laughing. “Enjoy your swim, loser!” They walked off in a “V” formation.
“HELP!!” I yelled as I went under the murky water. My eyes started to sting as the water  hit them. I started to sink as my fear of water made my body tense. I closed my eyes tight. My lungs started to burned for air. I felt two sets of arms wrap around my torso, Winter and Luke, they pulled me to the surface. As I broke the surface, I felt Eva grab a hold of my shirt with her teeth and pull me to the shore. I coughed a couple of times.
“You OK, May? Do you need anything? Like CPR?” Winter asked helping me sit up.
“Winter, you don't know CPR.” Luke pointed out.
“Oh, yea. Sorry” Winter's eyes were full of concern. “You sure you're OK?”
“Yea, I'm fine. Thanks. I owe you guys one.” I smiled.
“No, you owe us two. We saved your butt last month too.” Eva reminded me.
“Oh, yea.” I laughed lightly, remembering. Vanessa had a bad habit of pushing me into the lake.
“We should go. Before Vanessa gets some of the counselors over here.” Luke's hair shortened and turned bright blue.
“Yea. Oh, and nice hair.” Winter giggled then started to cough. I patted her back while Luke tried to look at his hair.
“What color is it?” He asked.
“It's blue. I kinda like it.” Winter smiled at him. (Me? I liked it better brown, but whatever.)
“Then I will try to keep it that way for now.” Luke smiled back at Winter.
“Come on, Guys. I want to dry off and get a change of clothes.” I jogged down the path that led to the Black Section of camp. Winter and Luke followed me.

We passed a couple of “counselors”. (Counselors are just scientists wearing name tags. Nothing special.) They said “Hi” and just kept going. Every now and then one would pat Eva's head or rub her back.
“This is nice.” Eva said after awhile.
“You only say that because you're being pet on.” Luke said, looking at her from the corner of his eye.
“You're jealous.” Eva teased.
“Am not! Why would I be jealous of you? You're a dog!” Luke stared at Eva in disbelieve.
“So? I'm better than you! Dogs are faster and stronger than humans!” Eva growled.
“Prove it!” Luke yelled at Eva.
“I would. But then I might hurt you.” Eva shook her head and barked.
“You can't hurt me!” Luke protested.
Eva was about to reply when Winter interrupted, “Will both of you just shut up?!”
“I agree with Winter, you two are both annoying.” I glared at Luke. “We should be at the Black Section of camp soon.” I walked ahead.
“Hey, when did we leave the path?” Winter asked, looking around.
“We left the path?” Luke looked at the ground, “I don't remember leaving the path.”
“Me neither. I've never missed the Black Section.” I looked at the trees, looking for some thing familiar, like a land mark of some sort. Nothing stood out.
Just some ideas that I threw together and put into story format. Nothing special. I hope everyone likes. And if you see anything wrong, feel free to tell me. I'm also open for ideas. If you have any send me a note. I hope to post Part 2 soon.

Edit: I will probably not continue this. If I do, I'll rewrite this and then add more.
